A Classical Synthesis of the Collagen-like Peptides with the Sequence Z(GlyProPro)nOBut and their characterization with circular dichroism and ultrac…

1975

Oligopeptides with the sequence Z(GlyProPro)nOBut (n = 3–7) were synthesized along a clasical pathway. Generally long fragments were condensed in order to allow an easy separation of the products from the reactants. It is established by molecular weight determination and measurements of circular dichroism that the peptides form the collagen-like triple helix in methanol and that they assume the random coil conformation in dilute acetic acid. The circular dichroism spectra agree reasonably well with the corresponding spectra for (ProProGly)10 which was obtained by solid phase synthesis in another laboratory.

Corrosion of Heritage Objects: Collagen‐Like Triple Helix Found in the Calcium Acetate Hemihydrate Crystal Structure

2020

Abstract Helical motifs are common in nature, for example, the DNA double or the collagen triple helix. In the latter proteins, the helical motif originates from glycine, the smallest amino acid, whose molecular confirmation is closely related to acetic acid. The combination of acetic acid with calcium and water, which are also omnipresent in nature, materializing as calcium acetate hemihydrate, was now revealed to exhibit a collagen‐like triple helix structure. This calcium salt is observed as efflorescence phase on calcareous heritage objects, like historic Mollusca shells, pottery or marble reliefs. In a model experiment pure calcium acetate hemihydrate was crystallized on the surface of…

Effectiveness of Entrepreneurial Universities: Experiences and Challenges in Digital Era (A Systemic Approach)

2021

The modern world actively discusses the challenges that will lead to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. As the specialists assume, part of the jobs will be replaced by artificial intelligence. In addition, creation of completely new jobs is expected. As for the jobs that might be maintained in future, skills upgrading will be particularly important. In such a turbulent environment of economic development, universities, and in particular entrepreneurial universities, play a significant role. We think so as these universities have special structures that promote form a university-industry-government triple helix, reskilling and commercialization of new ideas, etc. Due to the above-mentioned fa…

Augstskolas un industrijas sadarbība studentu inovāciju veicināšanai: Latvijas Universitātes gadījuma izpēte

2017

Dystopia deconstructed: Applying the triple helix model to a failed utopia

2016

This study analyzes the failure of a literary utopian system—Veronica Roth's Divergent—drawing from difference, which the divergent and the factionless represent. The analysis of the causes and consequences of difference from a socioeconomic perspective reveals a system that the triple helix model can improve. The adapted model based on cooperation and knowledge transfer adds two connections to the three main axes: Universities (Erudite), Government (Abnegation), and Industry (Amity), and gives the divergent a key role: inter-faction coordinators. Following a review of European migration policies, the study explores the creation of a new faction for the factionless. Regarding innovation, th…

The in, out Asymmetric Pseudo-Triple Helical Form of a D3h Diaza-Macropentacycle

2007

A sterically encumbered [N(2)S(6)] macropentacycle (5) related to diazamacrobicycles and cryptands has been synthesized in 53% yield by the [1+1] condensation reaction between functionalized macrocyclic and macrotricyclic precursors. A macrononacycle (18) resulting from the corresponding [2+2] condensation was isolated in 7% yield from the reaction mixture. Both compounds showed broad features in their room-temperature (1)H NMR spectra, but their maximal average symmetry (D(3h) and D(2h), respectively) was achieved at high temperature (380 K). At low temperature (200 K, CD(2)Cl(2) solution), the macropentacycle is "frozen" to a single asymmetric (C1) conformation on the (1)H NMR time scale,…

Analysis of the Impact of the Triple Helix on Sustainable Innovation Targets in Spanish Technology Companies

2020

The establishment of broad-based networks, such as the Triple Helix, for innovation and sustainability is sufficiently corroborated. In this work we suggest that the information received from the Triple Helix has a significant and different impact on the objectives of sustainable innovation, depending on whether companies cooperate or not. To this end, an empirical analysis of a stratified sample of more than 5000 Spanish medium and high technology companies in 2010-2014-2015 was carried out. The results confirm that companies that do not cooperate place more importance on the information received from the Triple Helix to establish their sustainable innovation targets.

Latvijas augstskolu nozīme uzņēmējdarbības ekosistēmā

2015
